Roughly 80-95% of your pet’s diet should be fresh hay such as Timothy hay, along with fresh water. 5% pellets and less than 5% treats. Hay and apple sticks are ideal for good dental health.

What is Malocclusion?

Malocclusion is the overgrowing and misalignment of teeth in small pets. Rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and degus have teeth that grow continuously throughout their lives. Without enough natural wear from high-fibre food and safe chewing materials, the teeth can become long, sharp and misaligned — causing pain, difficulty eating, and serious health problems.

Why Prevention Matters – GI Stasis

Dental disease and malocclusion often lead to GI Stasis — a life-threatening condition where the gut slows down or stops. When a pet cannot chew properly, they eat less, which reduces gut motility. This can quickly become an emergency. Prevention is key. Regular access to safe, high-fibre apple sticks helps wear down teeth naturally and keeps the digestive system healthy.
